Age and renewal

What age can my pet join?

Cats and dogs can join from 12 weeks to 10 years old.

How long can my pet stay covered?

Your pet can keep renewing every year, with no break, while they're 13 or younger. Once they turn 14, the policy can't be renewed, so it isn't lifetime cover.

Is renewal guaranteed?

Every year, our insurer MSIG reviews your pet's premium and terms before inviting you to renew, based on age, claims and vet costs. We'll always send you the renewal details at least 30 days before your policy ends.

Will my premium go up as my pet gets older?

Usually, yes. Premiums are set by age band (and breed for dogs), so the price moves when your pet enters a new band. Annual plans with no claims get a No Claim Discount of 5%, 10% or 15%.

If my pet gets sick this year, is that condition still covered next year?

Yes, as long as you renew on time with no break. Your premium may change, or a deductible may be added, because of the claims. If the policy lapses, that condition becomes pre-existing and is no longer covered.

What's covered

Is there a list of covered illnesses?

No, because we cover every new illness and injury except what's on our exclusions list. That includes infections, tummy problems, urinary tract infections, bladder stones, kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, pancreatitis and broken bones.

What vet costs are covered?

Consultations, diagnostic tests (blood tests, X-rays, ultrasounds), medication, surgery, hospital stays and follow-up visits after surgery, at any licensed vet in Malaysia.

How much do you pay back?

PlanVet bills per yearOvernight staysFollow-up after surgery
BasicRM4,0003 nights30 days
PlusRM6,000Unlimited60 days
ChampionRM10,000Unlimited60 days

You choose to get back 90%, 70% or 50% of each approved bill. A lower percentage means a lower premium.

What's never covered?

Vaccines, deworming, spaying and neutering, dental care (unless from an accident), fleas, ticks and worms, swallowed objects, pyometra, supplements and special diets, behaviour therapy, and rabies, distemper and parvovirus. The full list is on our exclusions page.

Check-ups and tests

Is the consultation fee covered when my pet is unwell?

Yes. If the vet diagnoses or treats an illness or injury that isn't excluded, the consultation is part of the claim.

Are routine check-ups covered?

No. A check-up when your pet is healthy is preventive care, which isn't covered.

Are yearly blood tests, urine tests, X-rays or scans covered for screening?

No, not when they're done only to screen a healthy pet.

What if the vet finds something during a check-up?

The tests and treatment for what the vet found are reviewed as a claim for that condition, as long as it isn't pre-existing or excluded. Ask your vet to write the finding on the report.

Existing and breed conditions

My pet already has a condition. Can they still join?

Yes, as long as they aren't injured or physically disabled on the day you sign up. That condition, and anything the vet links to it, won't be covered. New, unrelated illnesses are covered after the 30-day waiting period, and accidents from day 1.

What counts as pre-existing?

Any condition, symptom or sign that showed before your policy started, even if it was never diagnosed or treated.

Are breed or hereditary conditions covered?

Only 6: hip and elbow dysplasia, luxating patella, glaucoma, cherry eye, IVDD, and conditions needing femoral head and neck excision. They're covered if your pet was below 6 when their first policy started, after the policy has run for 12 months, and if they're not pre-existing. Other hereditary conditions, and anything a pet is born with, aren't covered. See breed examples.

Does my pet need a health check before joining?

No. Just answer the sign-up questions honestly. We may ask for your pet's vet records within 7 days of the policy starting.

When does cover start?

Accidents are covered from day 1 and illnesses after 30 days. The 6 hereditary conditions above need 12 months.

Claims and cancelling

How do claims work?

Pay the vet, then submit your claim online with the bill and vet notes. We pay straight into your bank account, usually within 3 to 4 weeks. Straightforward claims with complete documents are often paid in 2 to 3 weeks.

Is there anything special about monthly plans?

Once your approved claims add up to RM1,000 or more in a policy year, the rest of that year's premium needs to be paid before the claim is reimbursed.

Can I cancel?

You can cancel within 15 days of getting your policy for a full refund if you haven't claimed. After that, annual plans with no claims get a pro-rated refund and monthly plans get no refund. If you've made a claim, there's no refund and the rest of the year's premium is still due.

Who is the insurer?

MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd. Oyen is the agent you deal with day to day. Benefits are protected by PIDM up to its limits.
