Is FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) covered?

If your cat has been diagnosed with FIP, we know how frightening that is. Here's how coverage works 💛

The short version: FIP is covered, as long as it's not a pre-existing condition (meaning it wasn't showing signs before your coverage started or during the waiting period).

What's covered:

  • Related supportive treatment is generally claimable if it isn't otherwise excluded, such as antibiotics, supportive care, and other treatment your vet provides.

What's not covered:

  • The drugs GS-441524 and remdesivir are not covered. These come in many name variations, for example "Basmifip", the "green pill", the "blue pill", and others, and they're all the same thing. They're not covered because they aren't yet legally approved drugs for treating FIP in Malaysia and most of the world.
  • ❌ Because the drug itself isn't covered, the cost of administering the injection or capsules at the vet isn't covered either.
  • ❌ If the drug causes any side effects or further illness, treatment for those isn't covered either.

So while the antiviral drug and everything tied to it isn't claimable, the broader supportive treatment for your cat generally is. If you're planning FIP treatment, send us the details and we'll help you understand what to expect on a claim 🐾
