Are all cat and dog breeds covered?

Yes, we welcome all breeds of cats to be insured under both Oyen's Cat Insurance, provided they meet the specified policy criteria.

However, not all dog breeds are eligible for coverage due to the requirements from our partner insurer, MSIG, and regulations by the Department of Veterinary Services under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Services in Malaysia. The following dog breeds are restricted or banned:

  • Restricted Breeds:
    • Bull Mastiff
    • Bull Terrier
    • Perro de Presa Canario (also known as Canary Dog)
    • Doberman
    • German Shepherd/Alsatian (including Belgian Shepherd and East European Shepherd)
    • Rottweiler

*Starting from May 2024, Dobermans, German Shepherds, and Rottweilers are now eligible for insurance under Oyen, subject to specific conditions. Please refer to our Policy Wording here.

  • Banned Breeds:
    • Akita
    • American Bulldog
    • Dogo Argentino
    • Fila Braziliero
    • Japanese Tosa
    • Neapolitan Mastiff
    • Pit Bull Terrier / Pit Bull (including American Pit Bull, American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier)

Certificate and policy terms and conditions apply.

If you currently hold an active Oyen Takaful Kucing certificate, the information specific to your plan still applies until your certificate's end date. Read the full update on Oyen Takaful Kucing's discontinuation.
