Can I claim for it? A to Z of common conditions and treatments

Most new illnesses and injuries are covered. The list below shows how we treat the conditions and treatments pet parents ask us about most, from A to Z. If something isn't on the list and isn't on our exclusions list, it's usually covered, and every claim is still reviewed on its own facts.

How to read this list

  • Covered means covered when it's new and not pre-existing, after the 30-day waiting period for illness. Accidents are covered from day 1.
  • Not covered means it's excluded by the policy, whatever the circumstances.
  • Reviewed as a claim means it depends on the vet's findings, such as the cause, when signs first started, and why a test was done.
  • Covered, with conditions is for the 6 hereditary conditions we cover: only if your pet joined before age 6, after 12 months of cover, and not pre-existing. See congenital and hereditary conditions.
  • Ask us means we check it case by case for now, so please message us with your vet's notes before you rely on it.

Some things apply to every row: the condition must not be pre-existing, it must not be something your pet was born with, and claims are paid up to your plan's yearly limit (Basic RM4,000, Plus RM6,000, Champion RM10,000) at your reimbursement rate of 90%, 70% or 50%. Nothing here is a promise about a particular claim, because the final decision is made by our insurer, MSIG, after reviewing your vet's documents.

Tips that help your claim

  • Ask your vet to write the symptoms, the diagnosis and why each test was done on the report or invoice. That shows a test was medically needed and not a routine screen.
  • Get an itemised bill, so items that aren't covered, like supplements or prescription food, can be taken out without holding up the rest of the claim.
  • For dogs, make sure the microchip number is on the vet documents.

Can you confirm before I go to the vet?

Please don't wait for us if your pet is unwell. Go to the vet first. We can tell you how the policy usually treats a condition, but we can't confirm a claim outcome until it's submitted and reviewed. For more, read straight answers about Oyen pet insurance, are check-ups and tests covered and our Product Disclosure Sheet.

Still unsure? WhatsApp us on +60162996840 or email care@oyen.my and we'll help you check.

Last checked against our MSIG policy: October 2026.
