Can I use my Oyen pet insurance at a vet clinic in Singapore?

No. Oyen pet insurance only covers vet treatment received at licensed vet clinics in Malaysia. Vet bills from clinics outside Malaysia, including Singapore, cannot be claimed under your Oyen policy.

This applies to all Oyen plans, regardless of whether you have Cat Insurance or Dog Insurance.

Why is coverage limited to Malaysia?

Oyen is a Malaysian insurance product regulated under Malaysian law and underwritten by MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd. The policy is designed around the Malaysian vet ecosystem, including Malaysian vet cost benchmarks, licensed clinic verification, and local claims processes. Vet bills from overseas clinics cannot be verified or assessed under the same framework, and are therefore excluded from coverage.

What about medication purchased in Singapore?

Medication purchased in Singapore is also not claimable, even if your pet is based in Malaysia and the medication is intended for a condition being treated here.

This includes situations where a pet owner travels to Singapore and buys medication from a clinic or pharmacy there, then attempts to claim it under their Malaysian Oyen policy.

There are two reasons this won't be covered:

  1. The bill is from outside Malaysia. Only treatment and purchases from licensed vet clinics in Malaysia are eligible.
  2. Medication-only purchases are generally not claimable on their own. Oyen covers medically necessary treatment, which means there must be a vet consultation, a diagnosis, and a prescription as part of the claim. A receipt for medication purchased without an accompanying vet visit and diagnosis is not sufficient for a claim. This applies whether the purchase is from Singapore or from a Malaysian clinic or pharmacy.

There is one exception to point 2: if your pet has an existing diagnosed condition that has already been submitted as a claim, and your Malaysian vet issues a prescription letter for the medication, a medication-only receipt from a Malaysian licensed vet clinic may be submitted as a follow-up claim. The prescription letter must be from a Malaysian vet and must specify the medication, dosage, and the condition it is treating. Bills from Singapore clinics or pharmacies remain ineligible regardless.

To be clear: if your pet visits a Malaysian vet, is diagnosed with a condition, and the vet prescribes medication as part of treatment, that medication can generally be included as part of the claim. What cannot be claimed is a standalone medication purchase made without proper medical documentation behind it.

What if I'm travelling to Singapore with my pet?

If your pet receives treatment while in Singapore or any other country, those vet bills are not claimable under your Oyen policy. For travel coverage, we recommend exploring dedicated pet travel insurance options.

Where can I use my Oyen insurance?

You can visit any licensed vet clinic in Malaysia. Oyen does not operate a panel system, so you are free to choose any vet clinic you trust, anywhere in Malaysia. Pay your vet bill first, then submit your claim through your Oyen account.
