Here's a link to our FAQ. (e) be microchipped (for pet dogs) (f) where your pet is a cat, you must provide medical card certification from a registered veterinarian with details of the pet and its owner including their names and photographs of the pet. You undoubtedly already know that bringing a kitten home is both exciting and intimidating if you're thinking about obtaining one! You can give your cat the best start in life and prevent future issues by following our advice on kitten care. This guide will cover some advice on how to care for a stray or abandon kitten if you find one on the street without its mother nearby. They want to pick them up and bringing them inside can be hard to resist too! Whether you are adopting one or ‘accidentally’ adopted by an abandoned kitten, we should constantly ensure that the kitten's health develops quickly so that its body may receive the proper nourishment to remain well-developed in the future. In this article, we'll discuss how to care for an adopted and stray kittens with the best foods to feed them and how to potty train them to develop good behavior from a young age to share a home with humans and other animals.
Determining A Kitten’s Age Is Crucial To Choosing The Right Food
The good news is that you don't have to be a vet to determine a kitten's age. Having said that, it is always best to confirm the age with a pet doctor. Just to be safe! It's because a keen eye and knowledge of age-revealing signs can be used to determine a kitten's age. You can determine the little kitty cat's age and, ultimately, what to feed it by examining it.
Completely closed eyes and ear canals folded against their heads.
Umbilical cord stump still intact. The umbilical cord stump will usually fall off around four to five days of age.
One week old
The eyes of kittens will open, but not open completely and are squinty.
Bright blue eyes in all very young kittens. Refrain from attempting to pry open the half-open peepers of one-week-old kittens.
The ears of kittens will begin to unfold. Their ear canals will slightly open, too, like their eyes.
It’s also at this age when baby cats will start to crawl.
Two weeks old
More open ear canals and their ears will pop out
Eyes will be fully open. Despite being completely open, the eyes of kittens will still be blue, but their pupils won’t be able to dilate.
Kittens will be better at crawling, although they will still be wobbly when attempting to move from point A to point B.
Three weeks old
Will get startled by loud noises
Their ears will appear more like the ears of kittens instead of the ears of cubs.
Their incisors (teeth in the front center of the mouth) will emerge. Kittens have a total of 12 incisors — six incisors above and six incisors below.
Will walk so much better.
Four weeks old
Canines (fangs) of kittens will emerge — all four of them.
Better vision and motion.
All members of the litter will also play with one another, albeit in an extremely clumsy (and adorable!) manner.
They will also start to attempt to groom themselves.
Five weeks old
Able to have milk and solid food at the same time.
Ears of kittens will appear bigger and more pointed.
Will be able to retract and extend their claws.
Six weeks old
Eye color changes from blue to their permanent adult eye color, except for those that are meant to be blue-eyed adult cats.
Walk and play more often.
Seven weeks old
Walk and run without much trouble and also climb a lot.
Will be able to eat kibbles. However, it’s a good idea to mix them with wet cat food to make the transition from wet to dry food go as smoothly as possible.
Eight weeks old
They will look like miniature versions of adult cats.
They will also eat and sleep at regular intervals like their mother cat or any other adult cat.
It’s also at this time of their lives when they can be spayed or neutered
Increased muscle tone
Best Approaches To Taking Care Of A Kitten Depends On Their Age
Typically, when adopting a kitten, the best age to bring them home is at least 8 weeks old. Wherever they came from, the person looking after your kitten should have done a few things before you bring them home. First kitten vaccinations are particularly important to prevent future health problems. Check out these best vet clinics in Malaysia:
Acknowledging why we should obtain valid pet insurance in Malaysia, will offer you peace of mind in terms of money and expenditure as well as the safety of your furry kids. You'll also need to prepare your home by providing lots of space for your kitten to play, as well as resting and hiding places. Buying cat essentials such as toys, a mini litter tray and things to climb provides a positive experience for your kitten. Cat beds sold in Malaysia are a great way to ramp up your cat’s indoor setting. They sleep most of the time, so it’s good to keep them comfy at all times. From 8 to 12 weeks, you should expose your kitten to positive experiences in socializing. This includes introducing them to other people and pets that should already be healthy and fully vaccinated cats and dogs, as well as children. This gets them used to being handled. Gradually introduce them to their cat carrier, grooming, being picked up, handling, and having their ears, eyes, and other body parts checked. Establish a consistent routine and rules like keeping them out of certain rooms by rewarding good behavior with the same kitten food as they had before.
From 12 weeks onwards, your kitten will need their second vaccination. You should also book them for neutering or spaying and ask your pet doc about deworming treatments. Mental stimulation is also important at this stage where you should be spending a lot of time playing with your kitten almost every day. Try some kitten training such as having them come to you when you call. At the same time, kittens need to rest as growing and learning are tiring. Let your kitten rest regularly and keep training sessions short.
6 months old kittens may look like they are semi-adult cats, but in fact, they are still kittens. So, keep all the learning and training experiences as positive as you can. By keeping experiences positive from day one, you'll help your kitten grow into a confident adult cat, making life more enjoyable for you both.
How To Take Care Of A Stray Kitten When You See One On The Street
Even if you see kittens by themselves, their mother is probably nearby. The ideal caretaker for kittens is a mother cat. It is best to NOT remove kittens younger than ~8 weeks old from their mother as it can be harmful to their well-being. Check on the mother’s whereabouts and re-visit 2-4 hours later if the mother is still missing. A mother cat will abandon her kittens momentarily for valid reasons, such as to find food. Even so, she might be hiding out and awaiting your departure. In a few exceptional cases, the kittens' existing surroundings may put them in urgent danger. Kittens may need to be removed, for instance, if they are in a flood plain or close to a fire. If possible, move the kittens to another outdoor spot as close to their original nest as is safe so their mother can find them.
Good Tip: Sprinkle flour near the kittens’ nest. If the mother cat returns, she will leave paw prints.
You should intervene to help the kittens if you have waited for several hours or more than a day and have grounds to suspect their mother is no longer present. Neonatal kittens, or kittens under 4 weeks old, require specialized equipment and 24-hour care to live. If the kittens you found are injured, here are some tips that you can refer to. Not sure if the kittens are sick? Here are the 13 sick cat signs you should be careful of.
The initial human reaction in such a situation would be to take the kittens to an animal shelter. Because kittens' immune systems are still developing and they are more susceptible to disease than adults, even the greatest shelters can be deadly for them. As a result, it is improper to take the kittens to a shelter. Instead, you could wrap the kitten(s) with a warm blanket and place them comfortably in a pet carrier or a clean box. Bring the whole family to your home. A quiet and small room (like a bathroom) is a good spot to prevent any loud noises and disturbances from other people and/or pets.
Provide food and water, and a litter box placed as far away from the sleeping and eating areas as possible. If needed, you may ‘shower’ the kittens gently with a wet cloth. Ensure that the temperature is not cold. For more tips, you can visit our free guide here on how to safely bathe cats.
If you are unable to care for the kittens yourself, see if a friend or family member can help, or get in touch with local animal advocates, rescue organizations, or protection groups. Posting it for adoption on Facebook's pet-friendly groups may help you find these supporters.
What To Feed Based On A Kitten’s Age
It's crucial to consider which foods survive in the tiny mouths of stray kittens, especially in the first few weeks of their lives. If improper foods are given to them, they may not receive the nutrition they need to grow and develop normally and correctly. Additionally, it can unnecessarily irritate their digestion.
Here is a summary:
1 to 3 weeks old - Kitten milk replacer
4 to 5 weeks old - Kitten milk replacer and wet food
6 to 8 weeks old - Wet and dry food
Below, you will come across some of the things that you may give to a kitten, whether they are stray or adopted.
Milk (DO NOT give cow’s milk): Its digestive system cannot process lactose, a type of sugar found in milk. Give them milk replacers available at veterinary clinics, pet food, and supplies stores. For more information on how much milk should be fed and feeding frequency, you may refer to our FREE guide here.
Meat: kittens should be given cooked meat only such as cooked beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and turkey. Avoid giving fatty, processed, and greasy meat.
Eggs: They should be offered nothing but cooked eggs only.
Fish: Tuna, salmon, mackerel, trout, and herring are some of the absolute favorites of kittens and adult cats, too. Canned fish is OK, however, opt for water-packed and low-sodium canned fish to keep their health out of harm’s way.
Whole Grains: they are loaded with fiber and good amounts of nutrients such as oatmeal and brown rice. Just make sure that you cook whole grains very well before feeding them.
Plain Bread: If they are old enough to eat solid food, but have yet to head to the nearest pet food and supplies store, give them a small amount of bread.
Needless to say, kittens of different ages can eat different foods appropriate for their age to keep them from having digestive system-related issues. So, before you offer it anything, you should determine how old they are. You may also consider checking out the list of food that should be avoided too! Click here to find out more today!
How To Potty Train Your Kitten in 3 Easy Steps
Step 1: The first step to effective litter behavior is choosing the correct litter box.
Given how small kittens are, pet parents can begin by providing a small litter box for their new feline friend and gradually transition to a larger box as their pet grows. Typically, silica gel, clay, pine, corn, or recycled newspaper are used to make cat litter. Both scented and unscented forms of litter are available.
Step 2: Keep your kitten in a small, quiet, low-traffic environment while you start to potty train them.
To urge your cat to use the litter box, it could be beneficial to gently place the kitten inside. Never put the cat's food and drink bowls next to the litter box. Additionally, it's a good idea to have a litter box that is simple to access on each floor of your house. If you have more than one cat, make sure you have enough litter boxes to accommodate all of them to avoid territorial issues.
Step 3: As soon as your kitten begins using the litter box, pet parents must keep an eye on their behavior and look out for any changes.
A change in conduct could be a sign of hidden medical problems. This includes instances in which your cat urinates outside of the litter box.
The Bottom Line
Getting ready for everything needed to care for your kitten, whether it was adopted or was a stray, can be stressful at first. You may assist them in settling into their new home and leading a contented, healthy life by getting a few things done for a good start. Consult your veterinarian to learn more about annual physicals, shots, microchipping, desexing, and flea and worm prevention. A kitten's growth and learning processes, as well as the kind of food they digest, can vary depending on their age. Additionally, we advise potty training them as soon as possible to encourage positive behavior as they grow older.

Ollie mula kurang sihat
Jangka hayat kucing FIP

Likewise, this also applies to our daily (human) cosmetic care products, and we should be more alert and cautious when choosing the right personal care products for our furry kids (even for ourselves)!
For some of us or our pets, we or they may have sensitive skin prone to allergies, inflammation, and other skin reactions. PawPal No.1 Hot Selling Products– Cat & Dog Repellent Spray
Cats and dogs are affordable for all animal lovers out there, but they are also a handful! If you are a cat owner, you may be looking at a sad-looking couch in the living room or even scratched expensive leather (speaking from my own experience – ouch!).
Dogs, on the other hand, are super active and require more training than cats. With a repellent spray, you can keep your furry kids away from the couch or certain areas of the kitchen to keep them safe and well-trained to avoid further accidents, especially when you have little humans around.
Instead of bringing out your disciplinarian in you, using a repellent spray is a softer approach to discipline your pets whilst maintaining their well-being too! On another note, if you are staying on a landed property, a repellent spray could also help keep strays away from your pets avoiding unnecessary stress for yourself and your pets. This also means a disease-free area safe for you and your family.
PawPal’s Cat & Dog Repellent Spray is an effective way to repel and train on certain occasions. Made with a natural active ingredient, EGX-101 derived from a wild tomato plant, it is scientifically proven to do its job for up to 12 hours completely safe to use around animals, babies, and food.
The easiest part? It takes only a few sprays at a designated spot where you want to keep pets away, so you can keep your worries at bay! In doing so, it smells great too with cedar wood fragrance!
Reduce Your Time Cleaning Up After Your Furry Kids With PawPal’s Pet Area Hygiene Collection
Have a friend who’s planning to visit you but has allergies to furry pets? PawPal’s Pet Allergen Control helps keep your personal environment at home clean, fresh, and free from allergens created by your pets. Allergens are typically found in furry areas as they are trapped in your pet’s fur. From pet dander, proteins in their saliva or urine, and dust and pollen, are common ways allergens are produced.
Simply spray around your home or office to help reduce common pet allergy symptoms among friends and family members. It also helps cats & dogs that have allergies themselves too! With that, you can have more quality time with your paw pals and with others who have difficulties with allergens from furs.
Moreover, furs in general are found everywhere in your home such as T-shirts, pants, dresses, and kitchen clothes. With PawPal’s Laundry Pet Hair Remover, this organic and reusable product in the shape of a ball can help keep your laundry free from pet fur as much as possible. By creating friction, it helps to remove pet furs designed to be gentle on clothes keeping your personal environment clean and free from allergens. For how to use instructions, please refer to the link above.
For a cleaner and fresher personal environment, you could also consider other PawPal’s spray products to help you remove stains and odours, sanitize and deodorise a pet area, and deodorising your cat litter(s) - scented and unscented available.
Here are a few scenarios as to when you should use them:
PawPal Pet Area Sanitizer And Deodoriser Spray - When you experience bad odours from cages, kennels, pet beds/bedding, toys, litter boxes, and more due to the build-up of nasty bacteria. It provides extra cleanliness and fast-acting sanitizer to kill harmful viruses, parasites, and bacteria.
PawPal Cat Litter Deodouriser – Non-Scented Granules – When you need another efficient way to effectively absorb and remove bad odours while drawing moisture away from waste to help clump urine and prolong the period that you can use the litter before needing to replace it, which is suitable for all cat types.
Can’t Stop Itching? Try Out PawPal’s Flea & Tick Control
PawPal’s product range in flea and tick control comes in 3 different forms, which are liquid shampoo, powder, and spray powered by plant-based ingredients and easy-to-use instructions.
Depending on individual preferences, if you are looking for an efficient way to protect your furry kids from fleas and ticks after a walk down in the park or from strays, a long-lasting repellent effect is crucial to prevent infestation from your beloved cats and dogs.
It is also a great way to prevent flea and tick infestation in your children, friends, and other family members nearby while eliminating problems for pets who dislike bath time!
Pet Antibacterial And Organic Extracts To Calm Your Furry Kids During Their Bath Time
Last but not least, a good-to-great pet grooming experience for your furry kids is an alternative way to bond better with one another. We feel you! It is never easy to have bath time in peace!
Some cats or dogs dislike it simply because they don’t have the best experiences. That is why having the best pet grooming products made super easy to use with calming ingredients is a crucial step to having a fun and loving grooming experience. When they are having fun, you are having fun too!
If your beloved cats or dogs have open wounds, fret not! PawPal’s Pet Antimicrobial Wound And Skin Care Spray - Nano Silver helps provide an effective way to eliminate harmful microbes and prevent microbial-induced skin conditions and wounds. After all, happy pets stem from happy owners who care for their pet’s health and well-being!
Choosing a pet can be tough. What are the things to consider? What type of care do they need? Before taking a cat or a dog home, do your animal research. Consider your finances (adoption fees, food, and long-term needs like veterinary care), space (teeny-tiny city apartment or 2 acres to roam), time (will you be home enough to keep your furry friend healthy and happy), and commitment (can you envision this pet in your life for the next 10 years). You’ll need to dig deeper into the needs of particular breeds and species, but here are some general starters when it comes to caring for the most common pet categories:
Pet type: Dog
Numerous dog breeds exist, each providing as much individuality and delight as the next. But which dog breeds are the most well-liked in Malaysia? Here are the most common dog types in Malaysia. For this piece, we included information about the breed's history, the average price in Malaysia, weight, and longevity.
Labrador is an easy-going, devoted, and affectionate companion always eager to please. The sweet-faced Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular dogs among Malaysians. For a family searching for a medium-to-large dog, Labrador makes sociable, outgoing, and affectionate companions with plenty of love to go around. Depending on the sex, the robust, well-balanced Labrador Retriever can reach 21.5 to 24.5 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh 55 to 80 pounds. Labradors are known for being amiable. They get along well with the entire family and are amiable roommates. They also get along well with the canines and people in the neighborhood. The Labrador is an eager athlete that needs loads of activity, such as swimming and marathon games of fetch, to be physically and mentally fit, so don't mistake his laid-back demeanor for low energy.
Lifespan: 10 – 12 years
Weight: Male: 29–36 kg, Female: 25–32 kg
Dogs that are mixed breeds have ancestors from two or more distinct breeds. When the specific breeds that make up your dog remain a mystery, they are commonly referred to as mongrels or mutts. Do pups of mixed breeds make lovely pets? Absolutely! Mixed-breed dogs can be any size or shape, and their traits will vary depending on their ancestry. Mixed-breed dogs make good adoption candidates since the shelter may have already trained them. Additionally, you may learn about their personalities from the proprietor of the shelter ahead, which makes it simpler to know what to anticipate.
Weight: Small breeds (~9 kg), medium breeds (10 – 60 kg), and large breeds (29 – 54 kg)
Poodles are one of the dog breeds that are among the easiest to recognize. Despite being primarily known for their trendy appearances, the agile, energetic, and clever Poodle has many more skills than just their fashionable appearance. You should offer them duties to do because they are extremely trainable and suitable for almost any job. If they aren't kept active and challenged intellectually, bored Poodles might become destructive. However, energetic owners who can provide for their dog's requirements will discover a devoted, intelligent, trainable, and affectionate family member.

Pomeranians make excellent watchdogs and cheerful companions since they are alert, clever, and simple to train. They are happy in both the city and the suburbs since they are energetic yet may be exercised with indoor play and quick walks. The Shiba Inu is a little but well-muscled dog of an ancient Japanese breed that was previously used for hunting. The Shiba is currently the most popular companion dog in Japan thanks to its enthusiasm and pleasant attitude. The flexible Shiba is at home in both the city and the countryside. Shibas, who was just recently introduced to America from Japan 60 years ago, is quickly gaining popularity in the West and are already the most well-liked breed in their own country. They resemble foxes in some ways because of their white markings, red, red sesame, or black and tan coloration, alert demeanor, and easy gait. They are strong, powerful canines with a brash, assured demeanor to match.

The Welsh words "cor" (dwarf, or occasionally, to gather), and "ci" (dog), may have contributed to the name Corgi, while it might alternatively have come from the term for cur. The extremely intelligent Pembroke Welsh Corgi loves living with a human family and being a member of the "pack." Pembrokes are courageous, independent, and very flexible, which makes them excellent watchdogs. They are also devoted. The Pembroke's large torso and small, stubby legs might be deceiving because these dogs are strong and diligent herding dogs. Despite being close to the ground, they are nonetheless incredibly nimble when doing daily duties.

Pugs are very low maintenance and have a major propensity to gain weight if their nutrition and activity are not regularly monitored. Due to their small muzzles, they struggle in hot, muggy conditions and need to be closely monitored for heatstroke. Due to their narrow muzzles, pugs do have a tendency to snore. Because of how readily they might be hurt, the prominent eyes must be kept moist. To help with their weight issues, pugs perform best when they exercise every day. Despite their heroic warning from years past, they are not often good watchdogs, preferring to greet visitors with a wagging tail. Pugs should be socialized to maintain their friendly nature; they get along well with other animals.
Origin: China Weight: 6.35 – 8.16 kg (for both males and females)
Lifespan: 12 – 15 years

According to a survey, in Malaysia, there are 6 million dogs and 5 million cats as of 2019. However, only 398,000 dogs and 658,000 cats are owned, indicating that cats are more common to own in Malaysia. But which feline breeds are most favored in Malaysia? In this article, we provide a list of popular cat breeds and describe each one's traits.
You will be surprised to know how common British Shorthair types of cats are in Malaysia despite the name being British. Anyway, the British Shorthair is a medium- to a large-sized cat with a great deal of strength. It has thick boning and a lot of muscle. It also appears to be heavy and rounded. The British Shorthair is built with a wide chest, a robust neck, powerful jaws, and a well-proportioned snout. They are one of the most popular pet cats for beginners since they are simple to train and require low maintenance.

Sphynx cats are renowned for appearing (almost) naked, but there is so much more to these endearing, perceptive, and loving cats. Despite being referred to as "hairless cats", they are not always hairless. These cats have a thin down coat that is difficult to see but is instantly noticeable (i.e., incredibly soft) to the touch. Sphynx cats are loyal, clever, and entertaining companions. They are an affectionate and sociable breed that longs for your company and love, especially the scritches that go along with it.
Now, let’s talk Persian. One of the most well-liked cat breeds is the Persian, which is elegant, refined, and yes, fluffy. Persian cats are medium-sized, averaging seven to twelve pounds in weight and standing between ten and fifteen inches tall. They feature large eyes, tiny, rounded ears, and a rounded skull. Additionally, they often have plump cheeks and a face that looks pulled in and flat. However, classic or doll-faced Persian cats resemble their progenitors by having more pointed features. The Påersian cat is an exceptionally beautiful breed, with snub noses, round cheekbones, and long fur. They are often friendly and peaceful cats who prefer being held, but they are also content to simply lounge. They're the great purring lap warmer!
The Bengal or ‘the mini tiger’ is a very clever and energetic animal. He might be challenging at times, but this makes him enjoyable to live with. The Bengal is a self-assured, chatty, sociable, and watchful cat. They notice everything. They enjoy playing games, like fetch, and is a pros at picking up new skills. It's a good thing he doesn't have opposable thumbs since his dexterous paws are almost as excellent as his hands because he would definitely dominate the world! Despite their wild appearance, Bengal cats or mini tigers are actually quite affectionate with their hooman families.
Origin: United States
Weight: Male (4.9–7.7 kg) and females (3.1–5.4 kg)
A small to a medium-sized cat called a munchkin (sometimes called a "sausage cat") is distinguished by its extremely short legs, which are typically 3 inches shorter than those of a typical cat. Since they are so popular, they are intentionally bred. A genetic abnormality that results in a deficiency in cartilage development is the cause of shorter legs. These social cats are energetic and like running, chasing, and exploring their surroundings. Munchkin cats are vivacious, enthusiastic, and love to bond with anybody, including dogs, other cats, and people. Additionally, Munchkin cats are delicate, so they don't frequently leap to great heights.
The name of these amusing fluff balls comes from North America, particularly Maine. Due to their naturally thick coats, which protected them from the harsh New England winters, they were kept outside as farm cats. Maine Coon, who is also known as the ‘gentle giant of cats’ are recognized for having a kitten-like demeanor. They are one of the largest cats, yet their voice is surprisingly small. Maine Coons are excellent additions to big families, whether they be human or feline, as they like interacting with both people and other animals. This breed is ideal if you want a cat that will show you some love when you arrive home since they are highly friendly and enjoy playing.
Origin: Maine, United States
Weight: Males (5.9–8.2 kg) and females (3.6–5.4 kg)
Lifespan: 9 to 15 years
Cost: RM 2700–3300
To various individuals, owning a cat might signify different things. Others are content to live with a highly independent cat who spends much of its time outside and doesn't seek a lot of human connection. Some people want a cat to snuggle with them and sit on their laps. It's crucial that you look for a cat that will engage with you if you ask it to. Since no two cats are exactly alike, how each one interacts with you will rely on its innate nature and its early experiences—or lack thereof—which may make it afraid or confident around humans and in general. 5 Most Common Diseases in Dogs and Cats
While owning a pet is rewarding, be mindful that pet ownership is also a huge responsibility. From allergic to thyroid issues, look at the most common disease that veterinarians treat in their canine and feline patients.
Ringworm (Cat and Dog)
Contrary to its name, ringworm is a fungal infection of the top layers of the skin and hair, not a worm (or even anything caused by a worm). Dermatophytes are the several types of fungus that cause ringworm, and Microsporum canis is the most prevalent one in animals. While usually not harmful, ringworm is very infectious among people, especially among kids, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
Like the human body, the cells in a cat’s body need sugar in the form of glucose for energy. However, glucose in the blood requires insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, to “unlock” the door to cells.
Arthritis (Cat and Dog)
Both cats and dogs can get arthritis, however in certain cases the site of the disease changes between the two species. Dogs that have arthritis typically experience pain in their hips, shoulders, elbows, knees, wrists, ankles, and spine. Cats with arthritis typically experience pain in their shoulders, hips, elbows, knees, and ankles.
Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD)
Cats' bladder and urethra are affected by a number of disorders together referred to as feline lower urinary tract disease (FLUTD). The most common symptoms of FLUTD in cats are blood in the urine, increased frequency of urination, and difficulty and pain during peeing. In addition to excessive self-licking, cats with FLUTD may also pee outside of the litter box, frequently on cool, smooth surfaces like a tile floor.
Your dog may have itching from bacterial and fungal diseases, and their skin may seem dry, flaking, crusty, or wet. Along with persistent health issues like yeast dermatitis or staph infections, redness, inflammation, and odour may also be a problem.
While common issues such as ear infections and skin allergies are rarely life-threatening, they can be unexpected and expensive. The purpose of pet insurance is to shield you from unforeseen expenses like vet bills. Consider getting pet insurance for peace of mind.

Felis catus, commonly known as lovable companions (cats) are domesticated carnivores of our family. While some cats live in cozy homes, ferals often secure their hidings in close proximity to human-populated areas. In recent studies, cats have been found to be more agile than their extended family members such as tigers. They also possess better balance and hunting abilities compared to their longtime rival, dogs! It is true that cats are often misunderstood as emotionless creatures. However, stoic expressions are an ordinary trait of felines. While human beings project emotions through human connections and facial expressions, our meowing beans are descendants of wild cats that favour solitary life. This does not mean that cats feel zero emotion. Bodily movements become a way for them to express anger, fear, sadness, joy and happiness. Although some may look for the pleasant sound of a cat’s purr to distinguish comfort, a cat’s tail has more purpose than we can imagine. Their tails are often used to aid balance, communicate, and express hidden emotions. Below are ten cat tail signs you may have seen your cuties do! We are starting the list with an extreme end of the spectrum before finishing it up with the cutest tail signs.
10 Cat’s Tail Meanings
The duster: Threatened
When a cat arches its back with its tail all puffed, this is an indication that it feels threatened. Puffed tails are especially apparent during cat fights and when cats come in contact with larger animals. Cats puff their tails to appear bigger and intimidating.
Tucked between back legs: Insecure submissive, fear
Just as humans naturally hunch when we feel inferior, submissive or in pain, cats tend to curl their tails between their back legs when feeling insecure, fearful or ill. If your cat positions its tail as such in the presence of no one, you may want to take it to the vet. If it is due to the presence of strangers, they would naturally curl their tails to appear smaller. Ultimately, hinting a sense of fear.
The whip & trash: Annoyed/aggravated
Whipping or thrashing of the tail (to the ground or sideways) are signs of annoyance and aggravation. You may confuse this with friendliness but it’s best to remember that dog and cat’s tail languages are different. In other words, ignorance of this sign could cause one to be scratched, bitten or hissed at.
Keeping it low: Scared/anxious
Have you seen your cats stick the lower half of their bodies to the ground, especially their tails when guests enter your home? This is a sign of anxiousness. Never attempt to pet cats if you observe this tail sign. Instead, play with them first to build trust.
Twitchy end: Hunting, playing, annoyed
Twitching of the tip of cats’ tails can mean multiple things. It truly depends on a cat’s surrounding and/or environment. While this tail sign can be triggered when playing or hunting, it can also mean that a cat is vexed. It is crucial to look at a cat’s surroundings to see if something is causing its tail to move in this manner and proceed to discard any discomfort.
Self hug: Self-comfort, to feel safe, unwell
When a cat wraps its tail around itself while sitting, this demonstrates that he/she is either comforting himself/herself to feel safe or due to sickness. Some may find this tail action adorable but if your cat constantly wraps its tail around its body while sitting, you may want to determine the cause of this behaviour. Your cat is definitely feeling uncomfortable with his/her surroundings or is unwell.
The slow swing: Focused/ interested in something
Tail movements are often minismised when a cat is focused on or distracted by something. Slow swinging of the tail could mean that a cat’s attention is captured by other animals or toys. You may witness a sudden pounce right after!
The straight quivers: Excited, marking
If you have ever encountered a cat that has its tail straight up as it quivers, you are one lucky hooman! This means “I’m excited to see you” in cat language. However, it could also suggest that a cat has marked a place with its urine.
The question mark: Affectionately happy
No, this does not mean a cat is confused. The question mark is when a cat has its tail straight up as it curves towards the end. This is a sign of an extremely happy cat that appreciates your presence. If a cat frequently does this to you, you must radiate cat-hooman energy!
Upright!: Assured, confident, happy
When kittens greet their mothers, their tails are always positioned (straight) upwards. This symbolises trust and confidence. A cat may also do the same when they encounter people or animals they feel safe and comfortable around.
Conclusion Although cats’ tails can be very telling at times, never completely depend on them to determine every emotion a cat experiences. Instead, spend more time with your cats to ensure that their needs are met so they can live a healthy and content life.
